Following the same group numbers for the wooly conceptual models, you’ve been assigned a paper to read for next class:

Group 1 : Lafferty and Holt

Group 2: Han et al.

Group 3: Becker & Hall

Group 4: Mordecai et al. 

Prepare a short (max. 5 min) summary of the paper, describing:

• what was the driver hypothesized to alter parasite transmission?
• describe some examples of proposed relationships between R0 and the driver
• what were the proposed mechanisms underlying these relationships? e.g. “when the driver simultaneously increased parameter x and decreased parameter y, R0 increases at low levels of the driver and then decreases”

Present however you like: you don’t need to make slides, but we would like to see sketches (on a pad or whiteboard). The expressions for R0 are typically more complicated than our simple example. You don’t need to explain (or understand!) where the expression came from, just how the driver is expected to alter components, and the net outcome for outbreak risk.
